Guide: Twitter and Digsby (AIM/YIM/MSN/FBC/GTK) Sync Guide

digsby_196x1961This is just a short simple tutorial and guide to tell you how to get you latest tweet from your twitter account, and have it automatically be placed as your status message on Digsby, which is a multi-protocol IM client, for AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Facebook Chat, Google Talk, among others. Some of you may have seen my Twitter and Pidgin Sync Guide before, but that is outdated, and required PERL to be installed, and was a HUGE HEADACHE to get working properly

This is a much more easy approach to things, and uses the superior multi-protocol client, Digsby. If you’re still using Pidgin, but have a little bit more RAM to spare, please consider the switch to Digsby. I won’t go into all the advantages of it, try www.digsby.com for that.

Anyhow, the reason why this is handy, simply put: iPhone/Android users out there, are updating via twitter more often now than ever. Not to mention ANYBODY can do this via a simple text message to Twitter.

So diving right in this will allow you to set your status via one tweet, to basically every IM account, even if your not at home.

1. Download Digsby.
2. Configure Digsby to us all your IM accounts.
3. Download DigTweet. This is an older version provided from the author’s website, as the newest version did not fucntion properly.
4. With Digsby running, unzip and find a good location for DigTweet, run it, and configure it to your TWITTER FEED, not your Twitter account. Do this by going to your Twitter profile, at the bottom left you will see “RSS” click that, and copy/paste the URL into DigTweet.
5. If you’re concerne about usage, leave it at 5 minutes, otherwise change it to 1, for nearly instant status updates.
6. Exit the program via the X in the upper right corner, this will minimize it to the System Tray.
7. Test it with some tweets, all should be working fine.

Massive Flickr Update

It’s been a long time, too long, since I’ve had a Flickr pro account. I’ve just uploaded about six months worth of photos to my Flickr account, be sure to check them out.

That’s all for now, should be tons of photos of the new apartment somewhere in there, just go to my sets.

CCDA Certification

Well, in exactly 7 days, and 4 hours, I’ll be taking my first Cisco certification exam. If I’m going to pass or fail at this point is a crap-shoot at best. I have seven days to study study study. I have Monday off of both jobs to spend it simply studying the entire day. With any luck, this $150.00 I just spent to take the exam will be well worth it. If I fail, well, that’s a different story. I don’t have another $150.00 to spend durhing this time of economic crisis. However if my grand scheme of plans falls into place, I’ll pass this, on the first try. I’ll go on to finish the Cisco Networking Academy next semester of school, take and pass my CCNA (skipping the CCENT totally, I’m already beyond that knowledge level.) Then I’ll have two really good associate level certifications that TRULY compliment eachother. Networking Associate, and Design Associate. They basically tell en employer “Hey, I know how to design a brand new, fully functional network, as well as support it and troubleshoot it when things get hairy down the road.” Most people who JUST have a CCNA or CCDA can only say one of those points, they either know how to build and design it, but not get down with the nitty-gritty of a network, and its shortcomings, or they simply know how to come into an existing environmenet and work on a networ, but not nessicarly how to design a large enterprise network from the ground up.

These two certifications will really be my stepping stone to a great career that I can’t wait to start. Now, if only this economy would cooperate with me, and allow me to get a job making the kind of money I should.
